At present, there exists a three stage dry crushing&screening plant for processing of iron ore of capacity 2. 0 MTPA throughput and there is a proposal to set up a wet beneficiation plant of capacity 6. 0 MTPA throughput. The major expansion activities will involve expansion of mining operations in new ore zones, commissioning of a new beneficiation plant&logistics facilities, development of access route, construction of slime dam and long distance conveyor for transportation of finished products from Khondbond to Joda.At present, mining operation for both iron and manganese are confined to Q-orebody in southern part of lease for iron ore and northwest portion for manganese ore. Above the years, mining operation for both iron and manganese was limited to used location of 978. 00 ha. In coming years, mine is poised for an expansion to meet the increased requirement of Company's Steel Plants, M/s Tata Sponge Iron Minimal, M/s Tata Metalliks Confined and Ferro Alloy Plant at Joda.Proved reserves of iron ore is about 157 million tonnes. However on basis of ultimate pit planning minable reserves of iron ore have been arrived at 128 million tonnes. Thinking about 90%recovery, about 115 million tons of ROM ore can be extracted. At the proposed rate of ROM excavation(i. e 8. 0 MTPA), the anticipated life of mine is about 14 years.

The proved and probable reserves of Manganese ore body of Khondbond is about 3. 66 Lakh Tonnes. Bhubaneswar for preparing Environmental Affect Assessment Study for Khondbond Iron&Manganese mine region. The objectives of EIA study are to establish baseline scenario with respect to just one season data for report on different environmental components viz. air, noise, water, land, biological and socio-economic including parameters of human interest, identification, prediction and evaluation of significant impacts;evaluation of existing pollution control facilities, and preparation of cost-effective and appropriate Environmental Management Plan.Mining Technology-Iron OreIron ore mining at Khondbond is carried out by mechanized open cast method of mining using shovel&dumper combination in series of 6mtrs benches. At present, sponge grade iron ore is being excavated from northern part of"Q"-Ore body. As, the sponge grade iron ore in"Q"-orebody has come to depletion, new ore zones shall require to be developed. For continuance of sponge grade iron ore mining in coming years, orebody"J&K"of iron Ore Zone-III is proposed to be developed. Other types of iron ore(i. e. flaky iron and lateritic iron ore)encountered during excavation for sponge grade iron ore will be used(in blend with iron ore from other pits)from the proposed processing plant. To meet increased production targets, small capacity HEMM's will be replaced gradually with larger capacity fleet. The proposal for installation of mobile screening facilities at the mine site is additionally envisaged to meet the targeted production level.Mining Technology-Manganese OreAt Khondbond, all manganese ore deposits falls under forest spot. In coming years manganese ore zones IV, X, XII and XIII are proposed to be developed. Semi mechanized method of open cast mining is being adopted for mining manganese ore. Overburden benches are 3mtrs high which will be gradually increased to a height of 6 metres. Overburden is being removed by the mechanized means, even though ore raising is done manually in sub-benches of 1. 5 m heights. Overburden is drilled by 100mm diameter drill and blasting is done using conventional explosives and handled by Shovel/Loader(1. 2-1. 5 Cu. M)and Tipper(10/25 ton). Ore benches are drilled by jack hammer and blasted by using small diameter explosives. The blasted ore undergoes a process of sorting, sizing&grading and that is done manually.

The different quality of ore are loaded into tippers and transported to stack yard.Mineral BeneficiationExisting: There is an existing Crushing & Screening Plant based on throughput capacity 2. 0 MTPA on dry technology. The sponge grade/blast furnace grade iron ore from"Q"-Ore body is fed to Crushing and Screening Plant which after three stages of crushing and screening is finally converted into sponge grade ore and blast furnace grade as finished product. The finished product is loaded into trucks and dispatched to Tata Sponge Iron Minimal at Joda after weighment. Fines ore generated from crushing&screening is transported to Joda East siding for onward dispatch to company's steel plant.Proposed: In addition towards the equipement dexploitation miniere dor existing a single, there is a proposal to install a new beneficiation plant with state-of-the-art technology for beneficiating different grades of iron ore and converting into suitable grade iron ore lumps. The proposed beneficiation plant at Khondbond will be equipped together with the latest beneficiation facilities for production of lumps and fines. Finished products produced from the beneficiation plant shall be transported to the steel plant by Joda East Siding by belt conveyor. The spot located between the grid 8600E to 9300E and 12500N to 12300N has been identified for storage of iron ore tailings, considering the fact that it's a low lying place having exposures of BHJ in surroundings. Slime Dam-1 and Slime Dam-2 will serve for about 9 years, later on exhausted pit of Q-Orebody will be available for backfilling with slime and will suffice for life of your mine. The tailing would get settled at slime pond and clear water will be pump back by system of Barge Pumps installed in slime pond. The overflow within the slime pond will also be collected inside of a sump and pumped back into the system. This will greatly help in conservation of precious water resource and will also completely eliminate any chance of water pollution hazard.Water Requirement The water for the proposed mining activity including beneficiation plant shall be 550 cub m/hr (peak demand)which will be sourced from Kundra nala at Pichla Ghat. The investigation shows that the drawal of 550 cub m/hr of surface water will not cause any water deficit in the place as for the reason that the flow at Pichla Ghat is much over the drawal quantity and a number streams join the nala after the drawal point compensating the water drawal.
